By admin | April 12, 2010

I know running and swimming, what else is there? I know this is a good form of exercise for staying healthy and reducing your chances of illness, what other things can I do?

There are so many forms of cardiovascular exercise.

    Such as:-

Riding a bike (also a stationary bike), using a trampoline, skipping (using a jump rope), dancing, climbing up stairs and all kinds of aerobic exercise, which can be done in a aerobic class or even following a dvd. As you know, also running and swimming. Running can also be done in a gym on the treadmill, (also fast walking), a rowing machine, a stair stepper and elliptical machine.

These are all forms of cardiovascular exercise that will raise your heartbeat to the fat burning zone.

The healthy benefits of exercise and physical activity are absolutely immense.

Reduce the risk of premature death.
Reduce the risk of developing and/or dying from heart disease.
Reduce high blood pressure or the risk of developing high blood pressure
Reduce high cholesterol and the risk of developing high cholesterol.
Reduce the risk of developing so many forms of cancer.
Reduce the risk of developing diabetes.
Reduce or maintain body weight or body fat.
Build or maintain healthy muscles, bones and joints.
    Reduce depression and anxiety.
    Improve phsychological well-being.

But of course as well as exercising on regular basis you also need to be eating. A well balanced, healthy diet. The two work perfectly together.

walking, jumping rope, riding a bike, the upright bicycle at a gym, elliptical trainer at a gym (or if you happen to have them at home!)… there are so many! and you may even be able to join a group sport and get some exercise that way- and make it more enjoyable for yourself!

Elliptical machine, bicycling, hiking, brisk walking, stairs running, hurdling. The possibilities are endless anything that gets your heart rate way up and keeps it up for a period of time is a cardiovascular exercise.

For many who have successfully lost weight will tell you that not only its is important to watch what you eat, but the weight loss effort will be half a success if you do not include a regular or routine exercise programme. The exercise programme shall includes cardiovascular exercises and strength training.

Cardio exercises will burn calories and lower body fat, furthermore it will also strengthen the heart and lungs.

    Good examples of cardiovascular activities:

    Brisk walking
    Running
    Swimming
    Cycling
    Rowing
    Rope jumping

running, cycling, anything that gets you out of breath basically, even sports like football etc.
endurance/training exercises are those that u feel the burn in your major muscles and are usually whilst ur stationary e.g. squats, press ups etc
flexibility exercises are good for the days you dont do either of the other two types, which helps keep your muscles from hurting/stretching them out.
its best to do more cardio exercises (say 2-3 days/week) and do 1-2 days endurance training and a day or two of stretching exercises for the full benefits of exercise.

30mins a day is the current recommendations for adults (60mins minimum for children) but you can split that up if you cant do a block of 30 mins and still reap the benefits (according to SOME scientific studies)

its a matter of choice really, but just generally being more active will reduce your chances of illness, aswell as eating healthily of course, and avoiding germs!
