how do manual treadmills work?

i use automatic treadmills at the gym everytime but a manual treadmill sounds quite bizzare. how does it work?

    It is a belt on rollers on a slight incline. It moves by walking on it.
    They are much better for exercising because of the effort required.

    by gravity and your leg muscles. You pull your feet behind you (and downward since it’s tilted) and the band rotates.

    Your feet move the rubber walking area.
